REP Fitness Safety Strap Drop Test

Share this:

Shortly after posting my video last week about a potential issue about my J-Cups, a few posts on FB and Reddit surfaced showing a possible weld issue on the REP safety straps. I’ve never had an issue with mine so wanted to actually test them out to see how they’d hold up!

Rep Fitness Black and White Bumper Plates Review. I dive into all the details: Cost, size, bounce, odor, appearance, and feel. Complete review to help you decide if these are right for your home gym or garage gym.

Rep Fitness Bumpers: https://www.repfitness.com/#5f3b28f9517b0

Key Features:
• Superior craftsmanship and design. Steel inserts with hooks molded into the bumper plates increase durability versus older designs with brass inserts.
• Extra thick 10 lb plates are the best on the market, and highly resistant to bending
• Low bounce. Some recycled rubber bumper plates will bounce very high and make you chase the bar around. Not ours.
• Thin profile. With a good Olympic bar, you can fit 515lbs of our bumper plates on the bar.
• Factory tested to withstand over 12,000 drops from a height of 8 ft.
• Used in both commercial and home gyms all over the world
• 3% Tolerance

REP Black Bumper Plates
Our REP black bumper plates are extremely durable and attractive, designed to be perfect for cross training/HIIT workouts and Olympic weightlifting. Our 10 lb plates are extra thick (1″) to increase durability and reduce the chance of “tacoing,” while our 45 lb plates are thinner than most at 2.83″ thick to allow more weight to fit on the bar. Bumper plates are excellent for training the Olympic lifts, which end with the bar overhead or at shoulder height. This allows the lifter to drop the bar after completing a lift, or if a lift is missed, you can drop the weights without harming the bar, surrounding equipment, flooring, etc…
Plate Sets:
• 160 lb – (2)Each 45-25-10
• 190 lb – (2)Each 45-25-15-10
• 210 lb – (2)Each 45-35-25
• 230 lb – (2)Each 45-35-25-10
• 250 lb – (4) 45 (2) Each 25-10
• 260 lb – (2)Each 45-35-25-15-10
• 370 lb – (6) 45 lb & (2)Each 25-15-10
• Superior craftsmanship and design. Steel inserts with hooks molded into the bumper plates increase durability versus older designs with brass inserts.

Brandon – all your videos are 95% your face and 5 % the product you're reviewing. You're a good lookin fella but i am more interested in the hardware.

  2. Brad Burke

So if the rep straps are too long for a 41" depth Rep rack, they'll be just right for my 43" depth Rogue rack?

  3. ALPHA DUCK

This guy talks too much. Get to the point. A 6 min video can be turned to a 3 minute video. Stupid

  4. Jason Bond

Hey, thinking of getting a rep pr5000 V2 30" depth but I think the slack in the safety straps might really annoy me…did you ever find an alternative with a more appropriate length? I guess rogues would work but would have a little slop in the connection to the uprights?

  5. Chris Busi

Yeah there was a recall and they replaced them and gave $100 gift certificate. You can tell from the picture that it was one of the recalled ones because they should have soldering all the way around.

  6. Victor

Do the rep 5000 V2 safety straps fit on your rogue rm-3?

  7. Dakotah Hueftle

Have you tried your rogue safety straps on your rep rack?

  8. Andrew Jacques

Hey Brandon, will that REP FITNESS LAT Pull down work on a Rouge RML 490C 3.0?

  9. F H

Im just jealous about Americans has a lot of option of equipment from this & that & nitpicky (not you). Im here in small town in Malaysia spend all money to set up my home gym with the most basic equipment

  10. B. L

Almost all of the Rogue Ohio (not Power) bars in my commercial gym are warped. I guess people must have been testing the safeties on the racks at the gym as well. –_-;; I need to find a better gym.

  11. Daniel Ferrer Escuer

    Really proud of following you.

  12. Gains Marathon

You lucked out, if you had pulled& dropped 590 or 600 lbs it would have snapped lol jk

  13. Mike Coover

Do you have the same concerns with the flip down safeties?

  14. jeff fish

Hi I live in Canada my wife has MS so we just started a basement gym . The attachment 5pc can you post a link please

  15. Alex Zhao

Pretty shitty to make a video saying the straps are probably fine when there was an actual recall issued by Rep.

  16. Reginald Chesterfield

What a GREAT video, the transparency, the integrity, thanks for keeping it 100. Lastly, what a balanced approach too, about how everyone has problems, but its how they deal with it that matters.

  17. Patrick Sedlacek

Weak, Coop risks everything for our safety.

  18. blg020

Dude hate to break it to you but millennials aren't that young anymore. I I would wager that most if not all. Of them know 411.

  19. matt duran

Just got the 230 pound set from REP. Will be using the bumpers for my log and axle overhead pressing

  20. squealer

Turn off the Wi-Fi when you're working out and restrict their data plans to 7am to 7pm, and the kids won't be pretending to sleep.

  21. Diane muollo

Always learn something new from your videos

I use both. Rogue deep dish plates for the power rack for squats and bench press. Rogue echo bumpers for my separate deadlift platform. I wanted a second set of weights so I didn’t need to carry them back and forth, so went with bumpers for the deadlift area.

  23. justin barr

I’m a millennial and I’m a rubber coated iron plate guy. Don’t get me wrong, I have bumpers and I have steel and iron. There’s just something I really like about them. Don’t like the bulk of bumpers since I don’t do any Olympic or Crossfit style lifting. Iron plates rust fast where I’m at with it being so humid year round. Rep Fitness makes some nice rubber coated plates.

Checked in! I need to get me some rep fitness stuff you talk highly of them 🤘

    For now Nofate47. For now… 😏

  27. Anthony Hernandez

Got that old school clang and bang plates 😆 but I do wanna pick up some sets of these for my deadlifts

  28. jokermann77

My garage gym is outfitted with iron plates. I've always used iron plates. Never used bumpers before so that's what I wanted when I started building my weight tree out. It was also cheaper to get into as well. Eventually I'd like to get an oly bar of some sort and a couple pairs of bumpers just to get into it it one day. Until then I'll stick with the "clang and bang" plates.

  29. Strength of Synergy

Great video. How many 45s can you fit on the bar?
