Metformin

Share this:

The inexpensive drug generically available as metformin remains the first choice for type 2 diabetics in whom diet and exercise fail to work. Not only does it dramatically improve blood sugar levels and hemoglobin A1c, but unlike other diabetes drugs, its use may lead to weight loss and is rarely associated with hypoglycemia. When necessary it may be combined with additional anti-diabetes medicines. Additionally preliminary reports suggest metformin may act to prevent a variety of tumors and even increase survival in colon cancer.

I'm 78 and have been taking metformin for over 25 years, 2x1000mgs daily. It works great for me and causes no problems.I hope it proves itself to be an effective longevity drug also.
    This was an excellent video……

  4. WHBGegs

Stop taking it if you have to fast, like when you have a special test or outpatient procedure– you can get so sick taking this when you haven't eaten for a while.

  5. Ronald Donner

My Dr wants me to take it to help with weight loss despite having a normal sugar level.Has anyone heard of this usage and does it work?

  6. T.C.S.

Metformin impacts nutrient sensors. MTor, AMPK, etc. This is thought to be mechanism behind possible longevity benefits. Perhaps still only theoretical in humans.

  7. Positive Thinker

Good information. Thank you so much.

  12. Tom Nekuda

This sounds like an advertisement for the drug metformin……

I have treatment-resistant chronic depression. Or at least I did have that until I started metformin and worked my dose up to 1000 mg. I got dramatic positive results quickly. I tried cutting back to 750 mg., But no, that did not work. Had to go back up to 1000mg. There is a recent research study about using a certain diabetic drug in the treatment of treatment-resistant depression. The diabetic drug worked for depression in a majority of the treatment-resistant participants. As someone who has suffered for decades from chronic depression, this is really exciting, great news!

    Excellent, accurate 👌🏻

  15. The Rookie Fisherman

  16. Doreen Fawcett

Too many side effects and you have to take more and more no Thankyou

The only cure for Type 2 is diet and exercise. METFORMIN should be avoided at all cost. It's side effects are toxic. In fact it blocks B1 and lowers B12 which then contributes to neuropathy. It gives you nausea and diarrhoea. It did nothing to bring my diabetic numbers down. This after 10 months on 2gram/day. The only thing that affected my blood sugar was to avoid fruit. No fruit for one day brought my sugar number down by 1. Two days off fruit and 2 points lower. Lactic acid is a problem especially if you have CFS/ME.

I am confused, is he talking in circles ?? If Metformin was the greatest thing for Diabetes why is there not appreciable reduction in cases. I suspect this drug does not cure anything. But only reduces sugar by a measurable amount. And makes big pharma big bucks. Friends I know that take this over time have to up the dosage . Why ?? Europe has been using this drug for many decades, Why only approved here recently? Again I suspect big Pharma at work again. Just because he has an MD behind his name does not mean he has an agenda. If this is a fix all does all ? Why the delay in FDA approval. The FDA is not susceptable to big pharma ? Or maybe so. Just look into Kradom and the craziness and mis-information the FDA has published. But that is another subject for another day.
