Low blood sugar, in other words, hypoglycemia happens when blood sugars go below a certain level. Everybody feels hypoglycemia/low blood sugar at different blood sugar levels depending on their baseline blood sugar level. We will talk about that later in this article. Medically, hypoglycemia/low blood sugar is defined as less than 70 mg/dL of blood sugar. Clinically significant hypoglycemia/low blood sugar is defined as less than 55 mg/dL.
Most of the time symptoms are typically shaking, sweating, anxiety, heart racing, feeling hot or nervous. These symptoms start early on with mild to moderate hypoglycemia/low blood sugar/low blood sugar.
When there is severe low blood sugar patient may experience neurological symptoms such as severe dizziness, confusion, inability to talk, inability to hear, inability to move. At this point, patients may need help from someone else in order to correct the hypoglycemic symptoms.

Why do I see flashing lights when it's low?
Thank you so much Dr. Ergin. My sugar dropped to 60 so I drank coke half can and after 15 minutes it went up to 102. I have never had this problem before.
I am having problem with eczema so I started carnivore diet which has helped me with my health. I have type 2 diabetes and my numbers were always high but now there are normal. I only eat twice a day and I am not having any problem. Thank you so much once again.
Just yesterday I had a low blood sugar attack. My own fault, I felt that "anxious" feeling before I rode my bike but it wasn't bad, so I rode anyway. Big mistake, at the end of my ride I was pedaling hard and fast, doing a sprint if you will, to get the heart rate up and when I slowed down I was breathing hard and I suddenly felt very dizzy and everything took on a slight greyish tint. I thought I might pass out. I went into the house and immediately took a couple glucose chewable pills, a couple cookies and a tootsie roll pop afterward. I felt much better after that. Always eat a little something first thing in the morning before anything else, especially exercise, to avoid that from happening.
Thank you so much for this! I was with my friend yesterday and she crashed. She was at 40 with no previous warning. It was very scary.
Thank you Doctor Ergin, this was so helpful! I’ve been struggling with hypos for years, had 1 for 3 days in a row and todays result was 2.3. I was so scared. I wish you were a doctor I could actually see because I think you could help haha. Thanks for the amazing insight, so very grateful 🙏
My blood sugar was at 66, and I was actually in the process of eating. I almost passed out right there at the table.
I'm in South Africa
How amazing it is to hear someone explain how your body is reacting. After my bariatric bypass I began to experience low sugars and I could not understand why. I was told many times that I wasn't taking my vitamins correctly which in part was true. But yet my blood work would come back perfectly normal yet still daily get these low sugars. I have educated my self to track my numbers, I did research on hypoglycemia and care for my self as if I was diagnosed but not really. And here I am post opt 12 years later hearing a doctor on a two year old video explaining exactly how I have been feeling and treating my self. I do have to say that I have never passed out thank God, but based on the term Reactive Hypoglycemia I will be discussing this with my family doctor. I want to thank you Doc for the information provided, it has shine light and answered many questions regarding my low sugars. God bless. And yes, I've subscribed and liked your videos 🙂
past week went from low 100's to low 90's blood sugar and started feeling dizzy. is this normal?
Thanks Dr Ergin.
Very important topic.
Especially when on insulin.
Good point on the cgm
Using finger sticks more accurate.
I have LADA
New to meal time insulin
And did have a low blood sugar of 62
Wasn’t pleasant but made it through
With taking about 10 glucose gummies and juice
It dropped so fast , I didn’t know why.
Anyway thanks for the info
Can someone have type 1 diabetes- but only have hypoglycemia?
I'm so happy I found your videos. They are so helpful.
14:52 – would like to see a video on 'Fear of hypos'.
T1D since June 2003. Was fine up until about 2 years ago when I had a really bad episode. Did not lose consciousness but came close. Dexcom G6 adds to the anxiety when things 'drop'.
Since then, always been running high(er) and hbA1c is around the 8% mark.
Thanks for the lol @21:43 ! – Kind of easy to say, but the 'waiting it out' for gluose to rise is torture.
Thank you for your video, im on fasting today around 5pm i feel my blood sugar is dropping. This is very helpful.
Can low blood sugars make a person feel sick to their stomach along with severe fatigue? I am prediabetic and had mild low for a few which ended yesterday when I had sugar spiked water along with an apple fritter which those two combined made me feel better and more human
