    But doesn't a plant based diet cause you to get type II diabetes because of the fluctuations with your blood sugar by eating so many carbs??

    You're not a scientist and you're not a doctor . . . but you are smoking hot. I wish we could hook up so you could empower me one-one-one. LOL Thanks for a great video. It's VERY hard to know whether to follow Dr Barnard and his whole food plant diet . . . or . . . . low carb. Even my doctor doesn't know.

    By the way . . . Dr Jason Fung somewhat disagrees with you . . . . HOWEVER . . . . he does refer to "eating refined carbs" which are not "whole food plant" :

    DR FUNG: I do not believe that dietary fat causes type 2 diabetes. The proof is in the pudding. We’ve followed the advice to lower dietary fat and type 2 diabetes prevalence has increased dramatically. Common sense alone would tell us that this theory is likely untrue.

    In this video, the doctor is correct in saying that fat found within muscle causes insulin resistance (fatty muscle). However, this ‘fatty muscle’ is not caused by EATING dietary fat. Instead eating refined carbohydrates and high insulin levels causes de novo lipogenesis in the liver which is exported to the muscles as VLDL and causes ‘fatty muscle’.

    This same effect is seen in cattle where cows are fed high starch grain to cause ‘marbling’ of the beef, which is nothing more than ‘fatty muscle’. But it’s important to note that eating too many CARBS, not FAT causes this ‘fatty muscle’.

    YES! I am a testament that this way of eating TRULY works!!! Back in July, I was diagnosed with Diabetic Retinopathy, caused by my Type 2 Diabetes. It scared me badly as I am only 43 yrs old and was literally going blind, and so I finally decided to start doing something about it! I started following Mastering Diabetes, and strictly eating low fat, whole foods, plant-based with lots of fresh fruits and veggies and greens, ZERO oil. I also made sure I was drinking at least 3L of water a day (plus my green smoothies), and started walking outside daily. By the time I saw the eye specialist in Oct., I had already lost 35lbs, got off my BP medication, got off my Insulin shots and drastically reduced my A1C…AND completely reversed my Diabetic Retinopathy!!! ALL that just by changing my diet to WFPB and walking…It truly works!!! My next goal is to fully reverse my Type 2 Diabetes 😉

    I am T2D was on keto A1C went down but cholesterol went up so I decided to do WFPB, now my fasting BG is over 100, really not looking forward to what my A1C gonna be on my next checkup. Will be getting Eric Adams “healthy at last” in a few days, can’t wait to see the recipes in his book. I am determined to beat this, saw my grandmother and my father died from complications associated with T2D.

    Great content as always! The whole plant based diet is one of the most effective diets for diabetics. Fruits are great for anyone, however, as fruits ripen, their GI scores increase. Fruit juices also have very high GI scores because juicing removes the fibrous skins and seeds.
    So be careful with fruit juices 🙂

    Thank you for making this video! I was going to leave a question related to it in an old video. I've tried all sorts of diets and they work and while I'm now pre diabetic my blood sugar and cholesterol go up and down. I'm going to ask my doctor about this as a possible diet next week.

    Good info! I eat ‘mostly’ a whole food plant based diet and was shocked that my fasting glucose was over 100 on my last physical in June. Then the dr did an a1c test and it was at the very high end of normal.The dr was ready to put me on diabetes medication when I told her I had gained some weight during lockdown (eating junk while keeping my grandson more often when school closed!), the dr said a side effect of the medication is weight loss. I cut out the junk and lost about 10 lbs and I’m going in for a bloodwork recheck soon.
